The First 551 Bench ever by a 65 year old man !
I finally peaked at the World's... I usually hit my best lift of the year before the Worlds and flatten there, this time I got 518-540 and 551 in one meet ! --My thanks to Joe Mickelson, who lifted off for me...Nancy Carpenter who handled my shirt and ran numbers..and Bruce Everett, who helps us train in Vancouver on heavy days !

There were 600 + lifters over 5 days at this amazing meet--it was normal to see Champion benchers like Robert Vick, Steve Wong, Vic Aleaga, James Crawford and Dave Marchant attempt 700 or 800 pounds...
Tiny Meeker ended up with a mind boggling 900 pounds....

| There were over 13 countries represented at the WABDL Worlds..here's team Canada Saturday getting a 'photo op' with announcer Don Bell....Left to right...Captain Canada Gary Bobrovitz, Nancy Carpenter, Don, ME and Colin Bonneau !
no !! We ARE NOT holding hands !! --Gary broke a World record--Nancy broke a Canadian Record-- I got the WR 551 in the 61-67 class, and Colin benched a great 534 and gave 300 people his 'cold' !

| Here is the legendary Tom Eiseman...who has lifted as much as 801 at 184 pounds--he had the crowd mesmerized during the deadlifts !!

| The comaraderie at WABDL events is one of the reason our sport is so addictive...I ran into top ranked Swede Selstrom and his crew outside, Friday night ! what luck, they knew where the ROCKSTAR Energy drink store was...sure came in handy when I got 3 hours of sleep lifting day....hey, this stuff tastes like bubble gum !

| Washington state's Forest Hofer did 595 in Olympia--this day he started with 600 !

| Gus Rethwisch presented Tommy Kono a special award at the event ...Tommy lifted for the USA in the Olympics..and is considered to be the top athlete in the iron sport ever --his many National, World and Olympic successes in weightlifting, and two Mr Universe titles prove that abundantly !! He was one of my major heroes as a kid...he inspired so many in the barbell world it was a great honor to meet him !!--- Bruce Wilhelm was also at this meet in Anaheim...whatta show !

| This is Joe Mickelson, who lately has been getting one board presses with 600 in the gym ! He's WABDL Washington state chairman and was my lift off man...he's a great guy and a champion powerlifter who everyone in the Pacific Northwest looks up to !

| The meet was covered by Mike Lambert of Powerlifting USA, snapping photos hour after hour...he worked hard and will have great coverage when the magazine comes out in the new year...it was great to see him at the meet !
I occasionally caught some shots of teams for the report here.
It was great to see so many dedicated lifters in one place !
