The highlight of this contest was James Crawford's 803 pound bench press !
I predicted he'd get it in the Worlds..but he just couldn't wait...it was a clean legit bench press ANY Federation would've passed !... single ply shirt, James POWERED it up smoothly ...The crowd went wild !

Brent Mikesell, a legend in Powerlifting, effortlessly deadlifted 705 in a singlet ! Brent has a great business called Iron Gladiators...he sells all powerlifting gear and DVD's --He first came to fame for legitimately squatting over 1100 pounds DEEP !

| My Pal. Jody Cranston benched a GREAT 366, double bodyweight lift, for a WABDL Canadian National record !
he lifted off in the bench for me all day, and then Deadlifted at the end of a very long day! ---plus he made the 5 hour drive home !! -- we had help from Starbucks Double espressos, and very loud 50's Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis tunes on the road home!!

| Here is my light opener of 485 which I blew away in perfect form....yep... I got a first place sword !

| On my second attempt I tried 540 for a World record in the 61 to 67 year old class...it went down and I thought it wasn't going to touch --so I blew it right back up like a feather....well, judges said if I had just pulled it another HALF inch it would've touched and I would've had the lift !--on my 3rd, I tried 551 !! an even BIGGER World Record, this time it touched ...but rolled forward on me...I got the press signal and I 'kinda wrist curled' it back ...and shot it up and back...when it goes back in that position, it is hard to control...then my foot slid..and I double pumped my arm and the spotters took it before I could fight it out !--this ugliest of all attempts is at my blog (link at bottom of page) Both record weights would've gone if there was just such an animal as a "five attempt" meet !-- hah ! yeah, right !
I'll get it easily at the worlds in Anaheim !

| Vic Aleaga was a huge star on this day with his benches all above 600 POUNDS!!! He's in the hall of fame at WABDL with a 705 !

| The best master lifter was 80 year old Brian Christensen ! I think he did 248 for a WORLD RECORD Bench !!
I think the guy is astonishing !!

| Remember famous actress Jill Clayburgh??? well, this isn't her...... but every time I see this woman lift, I think "Man she LOOKS the actress in "An Unmarried Woman" (1978) only WAAAAY stronger and more toned !

| The Lions share of photos were taken by Maryann and her daughter Christi..Christi goes to school in Aberdeen so she really knew her way around the Sam Benn gym ! Maryann is an old radio pal of mine from the Seattle days..she was known as "Kacie Sommers" on KJR in it's heyday ! She'll be back on the air one day, as the local station in town is getting a license for a new aquisition...Build it and they will listen !!

| This is Dr Don Bell...He was the promoter, director of this meet ! He's also a terrific meet announcer !--he puts on this meet every year and gives all the lifters a free barbeque dinner afterward !!

This is our hard working president and founder, Gus Rethwisch--he'd been up 31 hours straight ! driving from Minnesota to Anaheim and then to Aberdeen --Not an easy drive !! with a truck load of weights.
The Hilton wants it's Worlds rooms booked BEFORE October 9th
THE HOTEL IS CUTTING OFF ALL RESERVATIONS FOR US ON THAT DATE. THERE MAY BE NO ROOMS AVAILABLE TO LIFTERS AFTER THAT DATE AND IF THERE ARE THE ROOM RATE WILL BE $159 A NIGHT go to WABDL Website to read the entire release..this is extremely important to YOU as a WABDL lifter and to Gus,and to future of the best federation in strength ! and get your entries in for the Worlds too...the deadline is weeks away !
