Bench Press and Deadlift Championship

I tried for 523 to break my WABDL World record but only managed this
507 pound opener...this is my 3rd successful 500 PLUS lift in contests in one month.

Here's how far my 523 went...I'll get this at least by the World Championships in November
we'll be 500 or 600 lifters competing over a week at the Reno Hilton !!

| Joe Gast is from Tacoma and has a 600+ bench but at Alki got credited with 540 on his opener...he moved 600 to the top BUT was called on a technicality !

| In the Deadlift Mandi Gast got 303 which is 5 pounds better than her best...note she is lifting in a singlet...on line Kara Bohigian is urging her to use a "suit" for more explosion off the floor !

| Steadman Mathis lifted huge today and recently has dropped 2 bodyweight classes, I think Steadman ended up with more than 500 at 220 bodyweight amazing!! Some doofus from Canada is blocking the head judge after handing off...the bar...

| One of WABDL's Top womens Master benchers is record holder Betty Heriford...would you believe she is 50+ ???

| This is a huge weight way over 500 and I think this might be Todd Christensen...but then I've gotten 2 captions wrong this year so, "DOH !!....if it isn't !!"....or "Fantastic lifting Todd !!!" if it is !

| Joe Mickelson lifted in 2 flights and went after 523 like I did...he got a nice 512..Way to go Joe !!!

Juana Mangaoang is 50 and both her daughters lift, and are record holders...here she lifts RAW and with a close grip...her daughter below has a more conventional set up...Juana told her story in the Seattle Times article about the ALKI event.

| Legendary Bull Stewart hands off for Nancy Carpenter who was first place at ALKI with a 170 pound bench !
her later attempt at a New Canadian record was so close..she'll have it anyday now...getting on the road from Vancouver BC at 5 am didn't help either Nancy or me lift our best on the beach !

here is how beautiful the day turned out on Alki...Nancy took these shots of the beach with barbeque smoke wafting thru..and a couple strolling toward the sand..this meet was another successful outing for Bull Stewart and for WABDL !!
